US-Jordan Trade Pact Focuses on Boosting Tech and Innovation Collaboration

The United States and Jordan have entered into a trade agreement designed to bolster economic collaboration and minimize trade barriers, creating new business opportunities for both nations. This agreement ensures that Jordan will maintain duty-free entry for most U.S. goods, while both countries commit to overcoming logistical and trade challenges to enhance commercial exchanges.

According to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, this deal is a testament to President Donald Trump’s initiatives to forge deeper economic and strategic ties in the Middle East, alongside opening up new markets for American exporters. This move underscores the administration’s focus on strengthening partnerships in this strategically important region.

Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, highlighted that while the agreement stipulates a 10 percent tariff on Jordanian exports to the U.S., American exports to Jordan will continue to enjoy exemption from tariffs under the existing free-trade agreement. Qudah emphasized that the new agreement is anticipated to enhance investment flows between the two countries.

The U.S. and Jordan first signed a free-trade agreement in 2001, marking Jordan as the first Arab nation to establish such a pact with the U.S., with all duties under that agreement abolished by 2010. This long-standing economic relationship is reflected in the trade figures, with total trade between the U.S. and Jordan reaching $5.34 billion in 2025.

Jordan’s primary exports include chemicals, garments, mineral products, and precious stones, with its major import partners being China, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates. This agreement represents a continued commitment to enhancing economic ties and expanding trade prospects between the two nations.
