Oman has reiterated its dedication to resolving global conflicts through dialogue and peaceful negotiations, as highlighted by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi during the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Al Busaidi emphasized that dialogue is crucial for building trust and addressing international crises, while underscoring the need to respect national sovereignty and international law to avoid the use of force.
In addressing regional security, Oman expressed concern about the impact of conflicts on the security and trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz. Al Busaidi reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to ensuring freedom of navigation in accordance with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. He urged all parties involved to practice restraint and resolve disputes through political dialogue.
Oman’s stance on the conflict in Yemen was also reiterated, with Al Busaidi calling for a political solution that maintains Yemen’s unity and supports its reconstruction and development. He encouraged cooperation among parties to safeguard the rights and dignity of the Yemeni people.
Furthermore, Oman condemned ongoing Israeli actions affecting Palestinians, reaffirming its support for a Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, aligning with the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions. Oman also highlighted efforts to promote tolerance and combat hate speech through the Muscat Plan.
Finally, Al Busaidi outlined Oman’s commitment to sustainable development under Oman Vision 2040, which includes initiatives in renewable energy, sustainable transport, and green industries, with an aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
